I Hate to Disagree With Sen. Boxer, But...

Here's Senator Boxer's Statement on Defeating the Nuclear Option:
I am very pleased that senators from both sides of the aisle have walked the Senate back from the brink and preserved the great tradition of the United States Senate. This is a victory for the American people. It is a defeat for the abuse of power known as the nuclear option.

I will continue to defend the independence of the judiciary by doing all I can to ensure that we confirm mainstream judicial nominees who will protect the rights and freedoms of the American people.

As much as it pains me to say this, I disagree.
(1)We're being saddled with more rightwingnut judges.
(2)The right to filibuster has been preserved, provided the Democrats refrain from using it except under "extraordinary circumstances." Sorry, but if the nominees that the "moderates" handed up or down votes for last night aren't extraordinarily terrible, than the word "extraordinary" no longer has any meaning.

My song parody on this subject, The Immoderate Pact song is here.

You're right, Mad. You can't make deals with these guys. In your honor --

(With apologies to Kenny Rogers)

On a warm spring’s evenin’ on a train bound for disaster
I watched the wheels go faster as it headed for the wreck,
And the train was filled with pigeons who kept sitting at a table
Where the dealers made decisions with a marked and sucker deck.

And the Democrats are pigeons, and Republicans the dealers
Who look out for the big-wheelers as they soak the middle class.
And the Dems just keep on sittin’ and their eyes are disbelievin’
As they watch the Bushies thievin’, and they take another pass.

You’ve got to know when to hold ‘em, know when to fold ‘em,
Know when to walk away, know when to run.
You never trust no Bushie, or a Frist or Hastert neither
Should have learned that they’re deceivers who’ll see us all undone.

When the dealers come a-calling with their promises of fairness
Better keep up your awareness and doubt their every word
Be it foreign or domestic, their agenda is majestic
And it’s clear that its denouement will be a world of hurt.

You’ve got to know when to hold ‘em, know when to fold ‘em,
Know when to walk away, know when to run.
You never trust no Bushie, or a Frist or Hastert either
Should have learned that they’re deceivers who’ll see us all undone.
Thanks for stopping by President Boxer and for posting your song parody. I liked it!

Can Harry Reid or any of these guys read up on Game Theory? Democrats gain more from fighting.

Making deals makes the government run smooth, makes Bush look oh so good.

Notice how he celebrated it like a victory.
Bruce wrote: Notice how he celebrated it like a victory.

Of course, it was a Republican victory. It might not have been a good deal for Frist but it was a good deal for Republicans.

What those 7 cowardly Democrats did was agree to a 'compromise' than accomplished nothing as far as Democratic goals but preserved the filibuster as a Republican-only tool. Democrats lost momemtum but still have the same problem. They cannot use the filibuster without a fight. We would have been better off to go ahead and have this fight now and then proceed based on whether we won or lost. Now we are in limbo, no filibuster, no momentum, no progress.

Our play, Guns, Shackles & Winter Coats, by M. Stefan Strozier, will be performed for a full week at Where Eagles Dare Theatre (347 W. 36th street, NYC; all shows are 8pm), from July 4th-10th. Guns is a very powerful play about an American soldier who, after fighting in Iraq, returns home; but must face a second onslaught from post-traumatic stress disorder. He seeks help from his wife, family, the VA hospital; but all for naught, as he ends up homeless.

Audiences love Guns; and, each time it is has been performed, people have reacted very emotionally and provided firm commentary of the plays merits. Guns has undergone extensive revision; and, has been performed at: The Workshop Theater Company (312 W 36th Street, NYC); The Producers Club (358 W 44th Street, NYC); twice at a homeless shelter called Peter’s Place (123 W 23rd Street, NYC); and, Rose’s Turn Cabaret (55 Grove Street, Greenwich Village, NYC).

We will be continuing our play at Where Eagles Dare, as our acting troupe, La Muse Vénale, Inc., is affiliated through this theatre; and, the owner of WED, John Chatterton, is a board member and the secretary of our non-profit organization.

I too am a Boxer fan, and I too agree that the Republicans won this round. About the only thing going for us is that congress has very low approval ratings.
